Master of Science in Information Technology
Management

The MS in information technology management (MSITM) gives you a broad background in both business and IT operations. You will gain an understanding of how to implement integrated business and technology tools. The MSITM will give you a broad managerial focus on the full range of IT architecture, infrastructure, platforms and applications and the practical ability to apply technical solutions in dynamic, fast moving environments.

You will gain a solid grounding in program management skills,
including projects with diverse constituents, local and global
components and the ability to align IT resources with business
goals and objectives. You will learn to communicate effectively
with diverse groups of managers, users, clients, partners and

stakeholders. You will increase your ability to analyze, design,

deploy and effectively use information technologies as well as
ITM 344

to make and justify decisions involving technology that impact corporate return on investment.

GGU’s program affords you the opportunity to work in several UNIX and Windows computer laboratories equipped with contemporary software applications such as Java, Oracle,

OP 340

SAS and other software.

Advanced Program — 33 Units The advanced program is made up of the six MSITM core courses and the five elective courses. The best sequence is to pursue the completion of these courses simultaneously, as many elective courses are not available every term. It is important that you take ITM 340 in your first term of the advanced program, and that you take ITM 395 in your last term of the MSITM program.

 

Core Courses — 18 units

ITM 340 Managing Information Technology in the

Business Enterprise (to be taken in first six units of advanced program)

Enterprise Architecture Planning Budgeting and Finance for the IT Manager Information Technology Governance, Portfolio and Program Management

ITM 395 Strategic Information Technology Planning,

Organization and Leadership (to be taken in last six units of the advanced program) Project Management (prerequisite for ITM 344)

 

Requirements for the Master of Science in Information Technology Management Either a minimum of three years full-time work experience in an IT department, or a minimum of 30 undergraduate units in CIS courses, equivalent to an undergraduate certificate in CIS.

Electives — 15 units
Any three 300-level graduate ITM courses for a total of nine
units.
Any two 300- or 400-level graduate courses for a total of
six units.

Math Proficiency Requirement

Students admitted to this program are expected to possess a level of mathematical skill at least equivalent to College Algebra (MATH 30) and Statistics (MATH 40).

Students may meet this requirement by satisfying one of the screening creiteria listed under the heading “Proficiency in Mathematics, English and Computer Skills Required for Certain Master’s Degrees” on p. 114.

 

Foundation Program — 12 Units

The courses in the Foundation Program should all be completed or in process before any of the 300-level advanced program courses are taken. ACCTG 201 Accounting for Managers FI 203 Financial Analysis for Managers ITM 225 Management Information Systems MGT 210 Management Theory and Communications
