Enrolling at the University
Academic Calendar

Golden Gate University academic calendar is 16-week trimester with courses in the fall, spring, and summer terms. In addition to the 16 week calendar two consecutive eight-week terms (B and C) are conducted within each 16-week trimester term. The academic year begins with the fall trimester and ends with the following summer trimester. Classes are offered on days, evenings and weekends in person and on the Internet

through CyberCampus. Please view the course schedule online at www.ggu.edu for specific schedule information including time, place and cyber availability. Registration and advising begin approximately six weeks prior to the start of each trimester term, and students may begin attending at the start of any term. Most students attend year round. Degree or certificate seeking students may take up to two consecutive trimesters off without having to reapply for admission.

Enrollment Status Classifications and
Disclosures

The university classifies your enrollment status based on the student’s academic level (Graduate, Undergraduate, Doctoral, Open Enrollment) and the number of units in which students are enrolled during a trimester term. Trimester terms include the terms listed below.

• Fall trimester term includes the Fall B and Fall C terms.

• Spring trimester term includes the Spring B and Spring C terms.

• Summer trimester term includes the Summer B and Summer C terms.

Status Classifications

Less Than Half Time

Half Time Three-quarter

Full Time

Undergraduate 5 or fewer units

Graduate 3 or fewer units Doctoral 2 or fewer units

6–8 units

4–5 units

3–6 units

9–11 units

6-7 units

NA

12 or more units

8 or more units

7 or more units

These classifications do not apply to students who are registered in only one eight-week term (e.g., Fall B). Students must also register for another term, which can be either the other eight-week term or the trimester term. Otherwise the student will be classified as “less

than half time,” regardless of the number of registered units.

The university reports the enrollment status for each domestic students to the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) on a monthly basis. The report includes the beginning and ending dates of the trimester terms (not courses) in which students are enrolled and the enrollment classification (half time, full time, etc.). The NSC makes this information available to lending institutions, prospective employers, verification agencies and others wanting to verify a student’s enrollment.

The information reported to NSC is limited to directory information as defined under GGU’s privacy policy found in this catalog. Students who do not want information released by the NSC (except to lenders) or to other inquirers, must submit a Request to Prevent Disclosure of Directory Information form to the Office of Records and Registration. The form is available on GGU4YOU or from the Office of Records and Registration. See Student Rights Regarding Their Records in the “University Standards and Policies” chapter of this catalog for further details.

DBA Students on Dissertation Hiatus

Students who are in the doctor of business administration (DBA) degree program and are working on their dissertation may abstain from registering for one trimester and still qualify as enrolled as a full-time student by submitting a DBA Dissertation Hiatus Request Form to the Office of Records and Registration. To qualify, you must:

• Take no more than one hiatus trimester term

• Have registered previously for at least one trimester of dissertation units (DBA-899)

• Be in good academic standing

• Have no outstanding financial obligations with the university
